DIY Mini Lampshades
I’m so excited to share my first DIY with you on this blog! I’m currently working on The Wakery—a commercial client project that is going to be super whimsical and stunning. The space is layered with tones and shades of blues and greens so I decided to keep that theme for this DIY mini lampshade project.
Most of these supplies I purchased on Amazon—you can shop my LTK here. When you’re on a budget, you can take basic supplies and turn them into conversation-worthy pieces. Below you will find a supply list, how to and a video tutorial. If you make your own, please share on Instagram and tag @BroadStrokesDesign!
Note: I used velvet curtains as my fabric. We are going to DIY floating bench backs and I want to use the same fabric for that project. I got the color I wanted and it turned out to be cheaper than buying velvet fabric by the yard.
How To
Measure your lampshade circumference and height. I added a half inch on the circumference so my seam would layer over nicely and about 2 inches on the height so I could fold over my fabric and secure.
Mark and cut fabric to the dimensions you need. Since I had to make five, I made a pattern out of cardboard so I could trace it.
Spray adhesive on fabric. I used the seam of the lampshade and lined it up to the edge of my fabric and rolled the lampshade up to “wrap” it.
Glue down the edges with hot glue. I cut slits in the fabric where the metal bars were at top so the fabric would fold over nicely.
Hot glue trim on. I use the lighter to burn the ends where I cut the trim to prevent fraying.
