Home Office Makeover

My home office is my space where I get creative, house samples, do small DIY projects—and it can get messy. I didn’t love this space. You would think as a designer, every room in my house is perfectly designed and that couldn’t be further from the truth. I have many rooms that are in need of overhauls, so it was time my office got a refresh!

The thing about my old home is the center of the floors actually aren’t hardwood floors. Apparently this was a little trick they did back in the day, since everyone would cover the center of the floor with a rug, they didn’t always do hardwood throughout. When we took up the carpet years ago, we just got a piece of carpet cut and taped the edge with medical tape. Glamourous, I know.

The biggest change in the room was the black and white peel-and-stick tile that I added to the center. The paint colors stayed the same—really, I just added some velvet drapes, rearranged the space and did a DIY stool project. It really goes to show that not every room makeover needs a full renovation, just a few design ideas and some DIY love!

The DIY Stools

I found these 80s end tables at a resale shop in town and I was in love with their potential. They were an ugly brown and too tall for what I needed, but knew they would make a statement in the space. I had my dad cut the legs down to stool height. I painted them and added thin velvet cushions. They are the perfect pop!
